The Original Kraken: Low Bulk, High Vibes
The first-born. The featherweight. The smooth-talking, soft-opening original that started it all. Before the ZP version clawed its way to the surface… there was this. The Kraken Low Bulk.
This hybrid canopy isn’t here to play nice — it’s here to slide into your rig like a whispered secret, pack smaller without losing muscle, and deliver the kind of flight that makes you question all your past gear choices. It’s built with our lightweight L-ZP fabric for reduced pack volume, reinforced with our signature zero-porosity J-ZP fabric where it counts, and tuned to make wingsuiters of all stripes feel like gods of the sky.
Whether you’re just stepping into wingsuiting or you’ve got more jumps than clean socks, this Kraken is built to flirt, fly, and freakin’ deliver. It’s compact outline gives you the responsiveness of a caffeine overdose, while it’s openings are so on-heading it’s spooky. And that flare? Still writing fan fiction about it.
Add a Squirrel SkySNATCH PC to your Kraken order for just $169 USD (normally $209 USD) using the code SKYSNATCH169 in your shopping cart.
Fat 7-cells — lower in aspect ratio and ellipticity — offer killer heading performance and mid-line-twist stability. Perfect when your wingsuit wake decides to get spicy (yes, we see your body position).
The tradeoff? These shapes aren’t known for glide or snappy handling. So how do you make a canopy designed for stability fly well too?
That’s where the magic came in.
The Kraken Low-Bulk was born from years of testing, cutaways, and a relentless obsession with making a wingsuit canopy that could actually perform. Not based on BASE, but built from JYRO’s deep roots in high-performance flight. Julien and the R&D crew went full mad scientist, mixing modern aerodynamics with our trademark ingenuity to create something totally new.
She’s about 15% smaller in pack volume than a non-crossbraced 9-cell — easy to pack, easy to travel, easy to love. And don’t get it twisted — just because she’s lighter doesn’t mean she’s delicate.
She’s the reason the ZP edition exists.
This Kraken has earned her stripes across thousands of jumps in all conditions. She’s the older sibling: reliable, rowdy, and still the one you call when you want to fly smart and land smooth.
She opens like a dream, glides better than she should, and flares like a beast. And yes — jump her slick and your spine will thank you.
Advanced 3D CAD softwares give us more freedom to design the canopy down to the finest details and helps generate the most accurate panels possible. The result is a more accurate shaping, a smoother surface, and better aerodynamic efficiency.
The Kraken shape has been tested using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), which gives us, among other things, a better understanding of her behavior in turbulence and during recovery.
The Kraken is mainly made of our low bulk fabric, L-ZP. It’s an ultralight 20 denier silicone coated nylon canopy material engineered for minimal pack volume and enhanced longevity. It offers packing capabilities that are now standard on the wingsuit canopy market but offers performance and durability previously unheard of. Only the powerband and the center cell are made out of our signature J-ZP to make sure the canopy keeps flying for dayyyzzz. The Kraken longevity compared to it’s packing volume is a first in the industry.
We've added the split leading edge Powerband to all our new canopies since we pioneered it with Petra. It allows us to better control the aerodynamic shape in the nose area, which prevents parasitic drag.
The Kraken, like the Crossfire 3, has been designed directly in the shape she will have during flight, by taking into account the Zig-Zag distortion. This spreads the load evenly through the fabric and makes the wing more structurally efficient.
The Kraken has benefited from research on rib shaping that was originally used to design our new range of hyper-performance wings, Petra and Leia.
Crossports have been strategically placed in the Kraken to have the least influence on the upper surface shape while allowing a good air circulation between the chambers. They are bigger toward the center of the canopy to help with symmetrical openings. They have also been designed with an elliptical shape that optimizes their area while reducing the upper surface distortion.
While most ribs are perpendicular to the lower surface, the end rib is rotated inward to reduce the size of the end cell and prevent it from losing its shape. This reduces tip vortices and induced drag.
Despite being a relatively docile canopy, the rectangular planform has been compensated with a trim just a notch steeper than you would think. This helps with up wind penetration, fun and is one of the reason for the great flare. The lineset is also relatively short to prevent line twists and help resolving them without effort if they occur.
The shape of the stabiliser has been modernized to prevent it from flapping too much in flight. It also helps the slider to sit in the right position.
The lower surface of the center cell has been split. A very simple overlap between the panels allow the air to get in during opening while preventing any loss of pressure in flight. It really helps with getting symmetrical openings inflating the center cell first and anchoring the canopy in the air despite the wingsuit burble. The feature was inspired by BASE canopies but is made without mesh which would compromise the canopy durability.
Mini ribs are a clever way to reduce drag generated by the canopy trailing edge by making it sharper. The improvement is really noticeable for a limited impact on cost in terms of packing volume. It really helps during low speed flight and landing.
Parachutes aren't a one size fits all. The Kraken is available in any size you choose so that you can get the perfect wingloading for you at this stage in your canopy progression.
Who is the Kraken Low-Bulk for?
You’re a wingsuiter who values easy pack jobs, regular jumping, and reliable performance — without lugging around a massive rig. The Kraken Low-Bulk is your everyday, jump-everywhere, throw-it-in-the-bag-and-go canopy, perfect for:
Openings
The game-changer. From the swirling skies above to the wake behind your wingsuit, deployment is often where legends are made — or broken. The Kraken Low-Bulk opens fast, but smooth. You’ll feel it catch and begin to inflate right away, giving you instant feedback and heading control thanks to the center cell vent. Once inflated, it fills with calm, confident power. And if you find yourself in a twisty tale? Fear not. It’ll ride steady through the storm. Aarrrgh-me hearties, it’s no fair-weather friend.
Inputs
Like taming a wild beast that’s secretly on your side. The Kraken Low-Bulk listens closely and responds with precision. Every toggle pull, riser move, and dive feels natural and trustworthy — a canopy that’s got your back, even when the skies are spicy.
Toggles
First contact is pure connection. Responsive yet forgiving, you’ll feel immediately in control. Big, bold inputs bring big, bold reactions — but it’ll also fly smooth and steady when you ease off.
Stall point
It’s got grace even at it’s slowest. The Kraken Low-Bulk gives you plenty of warning before a stall — no surprises, no sudden drops. When it’s time to recover, just let the toggles up and it’ll return to level flight like nothing happened. Easy, breezy, back on course.
Rear risers
Built for efficiency. Whether you’re stretching your glide to make it back or just carving through clean air, the rear riser feel is all there. Use them well, and prove the myth wrong: wingsuiters don’t have to land off.
Front Risers
D for dive. F for fun. Yep — you can push the Kraken Low-Bulk and it’ll happily play. Dip those fronts and it’ll respond with gusto, giving you dynamic movement without losing it’s head.
Performance
It’s curvy, stable, surprisingly quick on the draw, and endlessly loyal. Float when you need it. Separation when it matters. Flair when it’s time to show off. Whether you’re in tight landing patterns or open skies, this Kraken lives for variety.
Recovery Arc
More swoop than your average 7-cell. It dips deeper and stays longer, letting you ride a recovery arc that punches above it’s class. A canopy that gives you the discipline of a traditional wingsuit wing with the spice of a little altitude-eating action.
Flare
Still one of the strongest features of the Kraken. Even on those still-air landings, it’ll give you a graceful tiptoe touchdown. That long, smooth power at the bottom end? It’s not just impressive — it’s damn near magical.
The Kraken Low Bulk packs about 15% smaller than a 9-cell non-crossbraced canopy like Safire 3 or Crossfire 3. This means you can pack at least 1 standard size up in the same container.
The Crossfire 3 and Safire 3 may typically be found in your container manufacturer’s sizing charts (and on our Crossfire 3 / Safire 3 product pages), which you may use as a reference for what size Kraken will fit in your container.
The Kraken’s fit to your container will depend on many other things such as how tight your previous canopy was in the container, packing skills, how old each canopy is, etc., so please take the information above as a general rule of thumb!

JYRO Canopy Buyer’s Guide
Made primarily from L-ZP, our ultralight silicone-coated ZP fabric, the wingsuit-specific Kraken keeps bulk low without sacrificing strength. It means you can fly larger, more forgiving wings in your everyday container—no black magic or oversize rigs required. But light doesn’t mean flimsy. Lightweight L-ZP is engineered for durability, and where we need extra structure, Kraken brings in our signature J-ZP for added support. The result? A hybrid construction that balances weight, performance, and longevity—perfect for wingsuit pilots who want it all.
Thanks for the awesome review! We’re stoked you find our Kraken magical 😀 and love that you say “release the Kraken” on opening. We should definitely make it a thing people do – tips on how to get the best from your canopy…
Either “Release the Kraken” or “All hail the Snell” or “Snelly, you magnificent bastard”
This has brightened my day! Gold, pure gold 🙂
I have been jumping a Kraken 119 for some time now and Absolutely love it for wingsuiting as well as regular jumping. Openings have been nice, as long as I have good body position, and quite consistent. Toggle fires have been quite easy to deal with, just using harness input to stop the turn or little opposite riser input. The few times I have had line twist have been rather uneventful. (If you wingsuit often line twists are just going to happen on what ever canopy you are flying.) The flight characteristics are excellent! Super fun and responsive to inputs. Nice dive and recovery so you don’t have to sacrifice a swoop if you are on a wingsuit jump, and an excellent bottom end flare. Flying a standard straight in pattern or doing a high performance turn for landing have both given me good results with plenty of flare for nice stand up landings in any wind condititon.
One of the more impressive aspects with this canopy is the glide range. I’ve opened with some pretty long spots and have always made it back to the DZ with time for a decent landing pattern.
Absolutely love my Kraken!
Super bravi, complimenti !!!!
I had my first five jumps over the weekend with my Kraken, the wingsuit flight as always was special but once it was deployment time , Wow freaking perfect soft on heading openings in pretty testy windy conditions, I have been jumping a Sabre 3 170 and 80% of the time I would have good openings in winds below 20 knots and the anything above 20 knots even with perfect body position I would end up with line twists as the Sabre would snivel and take longer to open and then get hit with gusts of wind near final inflation. I wingsuit most of the time and its all about the openings and the overall characteristics and handling of the Kraken are fantastic for a7 cell canopy. I researched all the wingsuit canopies on the market and spoke to a few people who were flying 7 cells and made a great decision going for the Kraken. It’s a fantastic wingsuit canopy and I couldn’t be happier.
Fuck Yea! Absolutely love it.
Cheers to the team at Jyro.
i love my Kraken! openings KICK ASS practically all r 400’ soft & on heading. this is my only wing ATM i fly it 100% of the time video/AFF/wingsuit hooking 360s from 450’ turning slow @ 1.3 with 27” risers
Vibhu –
I can’t say enough good things about this canopy.
Everything NZ Aero says about it is true, however, they left out one fact though: it’s fucking magical.
There is no other explanation for how well this flies, except sheer sorcery.
Flare for days, can even pull the fronts down on a big canopy, it opens comfortably on heading, be it on a wingsuit or slick dive.
This canopy will have you question all other manufacturers with a recurring theme – “how is this possible? how did NZ Aero do this?”
And yes, you can absolutely giggle inside your helmet as you say “Release the Kraken” prior to deployment (or maybe that’s just me…)
Had never jumped a Kraken before – bought it on the recommendation of my wingsuit instructor and mentor Tim Sartori.
Seriously, best main decision I’ve ever made. Thank you heaps.
